Deep TMS for the San Fernando Valley, Burbank, and Pasadena
Breakthrough TMS is a TMS-only practice in downtown Glendale. We treat patients who drive in from Burbank, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Van Nuys, North Hollywood, Encino, and Pasadena, one office, one care team, and an address chosen because the freeways that feed it reach most of the Valley without a transfer.
How a Daily Course Works When You Are Driving In
A course of Deep TMS is not a single appointment. The standard depression protocol runs 5 days a week for 6 weeks, plus 2 weeks of taper sessions, and OCD courses follow a comparable daily rhythm. The sessions themselves are short, about twenty minutes for most protocols, which means the trip in is usually longer than the treatment. That is the honest arithmetic, and it is why we ask where you are traveling from on the very first call.
Three things follow from it. We hold a consistent daily time slot for the length of your course, so the commute becomes routine rather than a nightly negotiation with the calendar. And we open at 7:00 AM specifically so treatment can happen before a workday instead of interrupting one. And if a week comes out of the middle of your course for a trip or anything else, we schedule around it rather than starting you over. If depression is the diagnosis and the daily trip is the sticking point, ask about accelerated Deep TMS. It is FDA-cleared for major depressive disorder and condenses the core course into six treatment days.
Cities We Serve From Our Glendale Office
We treat from one address, our Glendale office, and every city below is served from it. Each section describes the route in and what scheduling tends to look like for patients traveling from there.
Burbank
Burbank is our closest neighbor. The SR-134 connects the two cities directly, and when it slows, Glenoaks, Alameda, and Olive will get you here on surface streets, a rare luxury on a Los Angeles commute. The earliest appointments of the day are the ones that tend to suit shift work in the Media District and production schedules that start late morning, and we open at 7:00 AM to make them available. Because Burbank sits immediately west of us, it is the shortest run of any city on this page, and the one where fitting a daily course around a working week asks the least of you.
Sherman Oaks
Sherman Oaks sits at the junction where the US-101 meets the SR-134, so the route in is a single eastbound run with no transfer. Our schedule runs from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on weekdays, so whichever end of the day the 134 treats you better, there is a slot at it, and you keep that same slot for the length of the course. If you are still deciding whether Deep TMS is worth building a schedule around, the consultation that answers that question is free and happens by phone or in our office, with no course commitment attached.
Studio City
Studio City feeds onto the SR-134 from the Ventura Boulevard corridor, and the trip east is one freeway from start to finish. Many Studio City patients reach us after a referring psychiatrist or therapist has already worked through the medication options. We treat alongside that clinician rather than replacing them, and we return your patient to their referring provider when the course ends. Ask your prescriber to send a referral through our provider page, or simply call us yourself. Both paths work.
Van Nuys
From Van Nuys the US-101 carries you southeast to the SR-134, then east into Glendale. It is one of the longer Valley runs on this page, which makes a fixed appointment time worth protecting rather than negotiating, a slot that never moves is a great deal easier to keep than one rebuilt around traffic every week. Our team books the full sequence at intake, so the calendar is settled before your first session rather than after it.
North Hollywood
North Hollywood connects to us straight down the SR-134 eastbound. Patients traveling from NoHo and Valley Village ask about the same two things more than anything else: whether they can drive themselves home afterward, and whether treatment will cost them the rest of the day. Deep TMS uses no anesthesia and no sedation, you stay awake for the whole session, and most people drive themselves both directions and go back to work or class straight after.
Encino
Encino sits at the western end of the stretch we serve, and the route is the US-101 east to the SR-134 east. Encino is the longest run on this page, and it is worth planning around rather than guessing at. Encino patients often use that first conversation to map the whole commitment, how many visits, on which days, across how many weeks, before deciding anything. That conversation is with our care team, and it is free.
Pasadena
Pasadena is the one city on this page that arrives from the other direction: you take the SR-134 westbound into Glendale, the reverse of every Valley route above. Pasadena belongs to the San Gabriel Valley rather than the San Fernando Valley, but the freeway does not much care. It is the same road, run the other way. It is a direct shot with no transfer, and because Pasadena approaches from the opposite side, it never shares a lane with the Valley traffic described above.
Parking, the Building, and Arriving From the North
Our address is 100 W Broadway #1050, Glendale, CA 91210, in the block where downtown Glendale meets the Brand Boulevard corridor. Park in the Glendale Galleria structure that the building shares, unreserved spaces are plentiful, and we validate parking for every visit, so there is no meter to feed and nothing to budget for. The building entrance is on West Broadway; take the elevators up and follow the signs to #1050.
If you are coming from the north rather than the west (La Cañada Flintridge, Montrose, or the Crescenta Valley), the SR-2 runs directly down into Glendale and meets the SR-134 here, so the same office is reachable without touching the Valley freeways at all. On a first visit, give yourself a few extra minutes to park and find the elevators. After that it becomes automatic, which matters more than usual when you are doing it five days a week.
What the First Two Visits Look Like
The consultation comes first, and it is exactly what the name says: a conversation with our care team, by phone or in our office, about coverage, candidacy, and what a course would look like for you. No treatment happens at that visit, and there is no charge for it.
If Deep TMS looks like a fit, the next step is an evaluation with our supervising psychiatrist, Artur Saakyan, MD. He confirms the diagnosis, reviews what you have already tried, and screens for the safety factors that decide whether Deep TMS is appropriate, metal in or around the head being the one patients ask about most. Eligibility is settled there, in person, rather than over the phone. Only afterward do we map your motor threshold and begin treatment.
For patients driving in from the Valley we try to schedule those two steps close together, so the front end of the process does not turn into several separate trips. Our staff also runs your benefits check in that window, well before the first session.
What We Treat
Every city above is served with the same FDA-cleared BrainsWay Deep TMS protocols, under the supervision of our psychiatrist, Artur Saakyan, MD: major depressive disorder, including depression with anxiety symptoms and late-life depression; obsessive-compulsive disorder; and smoking cessation. We treat adults and adolescents from age 15. If you are new to any of this, start with what TMS is and then how a session actually goes.
